This weekend's experiment, a solar oven for dyeing fabric. First bundle was great until I washed it. Most of the color came out.
Linen fabric was soaked in milk and the bundle included a variety of leaves. The apple leaves were the only ones that left color behind before the rinse.
Not sure if the linen was the problem, I've only had really good results with walnut or indigo on linen or that I didn't let the fabric age enough before drying.
A solar oven is a nice source of heat to experiment with. The fabric was quite warm to the touch; the pottery it was in hot enough that pot holders would have been necessary.
I have a variety of experiments I want to try; including trying a cast iron pot and an aluminum pot. Sooner or later something will stick around...
