Inspire Me Thursday - Polka dots
Polka dots for Inspire Me Thursday.
Polka dots for Inspire Me Thursday.
The theme this week for Inspire Me Thursday is "Healing." This goes so many ways for me right now. From someone who has had an injury healing, to emotional healing, to the healing of our society, culture, and environment. This is where I ended up....
I've been looking at this house for over a year now. About a month ago there started to be signs that someone was working on it. It looks like someone is either salvaging it slowly or is going to try to rebuild from some part of the house. As I was walking by the house the other day I decided that I really needed to get a picture. That's when I noticed the "one way" sign in front of the house and for some reason it hit my funny bone. It made me think about times when there really is only one way to go, and times when one way of doing something is a choice. This makes perfect sense to me when it's time to think about the healing process.
Something that I've been interested in is prayer flags. I love the idea of a prayer that blows in the wind. I've been thinking about ways to make my own set and to make them meaningful to me. What I've decided to do is create flags to represent various goals.
This is a quick sketch for an idea for the first one that I want to do. I'm going to make a mobile with two glass bottles that could be used as vases. I'll take a picture, tweak it with filters and add text, and then print it or transfer it on to fabric. I'm hoping to finish the set by the end of summer.
Some of the goals/ ideas I have are:
balance
live in the moment
question
connect
simplify
be prepared
work with what you have
let go
I wanted to do more with this before I posted my response for Inspire Me Thursday this week, but I'm just not getting there. So for now....
I've been sitting out on my porch watching the wind catch the dandelion seeds and blow them into the air today.
I thought about wishes and enjoyed the way the individual seeds glistened as they floated up, up and away. I tried not to think about future weeds to pull or about how lazy I was being.
Made me think of one of my favorite books, Dandelion Wine by Ray Bradbury. I thought I'd save some of that magic for another day when I might need to be reminded:
“Dandelion Wine. The words were summer on the tongue. The wine was summer caught and stoppered. And now that Douglas knew, he really knew he was alive….”
Ray Bradbury
I loved the prompt "Doors" for Inspire Me Thursday. I didn't however get very far on what I wanted to do-to paint my door. So here's a quick photo of the door, tweaked digitally and a snippet of a poem that I really like.
It took me forever to get where I wanted to be with this project. I wanted to use some science diagrams from an old text book, but getting them where I wanted was a challenge! The goal was to get them on fabric. The problem was that I couldn't make mirror images and had to find another way to do it rather than use transfer paper.

I managed to get one pillow done, but have 4 more to go for a set. The text on the spine pillow says:
"Love many things, for therein lies the true strength, and whosoever loves much performs much, and can accomplish much, and what is done in love is done well."
Vincent Van Gogh
It fits quite nicely along my back.
Recycled materials: Fabric for pillow and for stuffing.
How I loved this weeks Inspire Me Thursday prompt! It's pretty much about how I'm trying to live and how I try to create. As I was thinking about it, I couldn't resist thinking that it's important to me to be (bee!) creative what what I have....
There were so many things I wanted to do, to show. I settled on reducing, reusing, and recycling in one project:
What I was reminded about from this project was how uninterested in perfection I am. Colors and how they interact and textures are what really interest me.
Think I'll take a nap now....
Had a few visitors to the garden this weekend. This one was willing to sit still for a little bit. Can't say that about the big old bumble bee that was wandering around!
I finally got my potatoes planted. The potato list:
"Red thumb"-early variety
"Charlotte" –early
"Bintje"- early
"Huckleberry" –Mid
"Rose Finn Apple"-Late
"Ozette"- Late
I also planted some more lettuce, some radishes, spinach and carrots. Spent a fair amount of time trying to decide where to plant my beans in a couple weeks.
The craziest thing is there is a possibility of snow this week! Not normal for this area at all. Of course is there normal any more? My plums and pears are blooming right now. One of the apples is just about to bloom. Might not be much fruit this year....
