Yesterday I was out and about for awhile and decided to walk home from downtown. As I was walking along the creek I looked down and saw a Great Blue Heron.
You can just barely see it in this picture. It's sitting on the log that sticks out in to the creek. I walked around a couple different ways to see if it was possible to get closer. This is about as close as I could get with the zoom on my camera and a little cropping.
A little fuzzy, but still magical. I wouldn't have seen this if it weren't for the roads I took, the intersections I chose....
I chose a few other things today. This morning I wasn't liking my woven square as much. It was just too busy. So I tore out the felting and have left it as it is for now. I'll play with it some more later and see where it goes. I made a U-turn.
I also have a few cooking/eating local adventures to report on. Today I decided to make cheese, butter, and sour cream. The cheese was made with buttermilk left over from making sour cream. The whey left over from the cheese went into the soup pot. Yummy lentil, split pea, ham soup with local onions, carrots, herbs and tomatoes. Served with locally made bread (would have made bread but I got distracted) and of course, locally made-by-me butter. I've been making my own butter off and on for the last year and really enjoy it. This is the second time I've made the sour cream. It is very easy and tasty. No need to ever buy sour cream in a plastic container again. The cheese, well, will see about that tomorrow.
