I've always loved the word "apothecary." This weekend's projects included making a batch of herbal shampoo and a bar of soap.
The bottom of a plastic bottle (the cream used for my ice cream!) was used as a soap mold and an old honey jar to hold the shampoo I made up.
The shampoo is a handful each of dried mint and rose petals steeped in about 2 cups of boiling water plus 1/2 cup unscented baby shampoo bought at the bulk section of the co-op. Be careful if you experiment with things like this. Different herbs can react differently from person to person.
I make my soap with a melt and pour base that I can buy locally. I tried something a bit different this time and added just a touch of lanolin and a bit of almond oil. Worth repeating I think. Someday I am going to get brave and take a cold process soap making class. That's the type of soap that uses lye.
