lost in the garden again.

My brother came to visit and asked me how I was able to get anywhere in the garden.  I replied, "With a pair of clippers in my hand."

Good thing I pulled the bindweed out of the blueberries...they are early this year.

The bottom half of a chicken waterer.  There is even a handle hiding in there for hanging.

and now the days get shorter

pause before finishing my cup of coffee to take a picture of the fuchsia I've planted to attract hummingbirds...

 

A day spent:

reading

pulling weeds

at the farmer's market

picking raspberries

taking a nap

knitting

and considering. 

Planning on making this into a bag. 

I have an idea, more on that later. 

Home made pudding and berries from the garden. 

The first blueberry picked just a tad bit early, as usual. 

The chickens want to know if they can have more raspberries.

In an hour, I will put the chickens to bed and that will be the end of the first day of summer...

this made me smile

and I hope you do too.

I'm just going to ignore the fact that I really need to wash my outdoor walls.  That can wait for a really hot summer day.

From the garden this week:

Iris and mock orange

making:

Infused oils to make salves.  Feverfew on the left, mullien on the right.  I'll be adding calendula to the feverfew. 

Leaving most of the mullien flowers in the hopes that it will go to seed:

the roses are outstanding this year

My mother calls this one "the ranch rose."  I think it might be a rose called "Chloris," but I like ranch rose better.  The parent plant was grown at the home of my great grandparents in Northern California.  Roses can be very long lived. I was curious about this and did some research.  The oldest living rose is believed to be around 700 years old and is a dog rose.  I love knowing that I have one growing in my garden.
