This time of year is always very busy for me at work.  So the week has mostly been about work...

Poor sad Briar. Briar is part lab and part basset hound.  The basset hound is mostly evident in her body type, the lab in her head shape, coloring and tail.  For some reason I see basset hound in her expression here. 

I have done a bit of knitting...

I'm at a little over 40 inches on the poncho.  About 20 inches to go.  Hoping to finish it this weekend.

I don't think I could ever get tired of flowers...

 

It's occurred to me that the only thing I've sewn this summer are tank tops. Sooner or later I'll sew again.

1. Around 5:00 AM I let the dogs out and noticed the crescent moon on the horizon, glowing soft yellow-orange.  This afternoon I talked to one of my grandmothers and she said she was up around 5:00 AM and she noticed the moon.

2. For the first time in a couple months I wore a sweater on the way to work.  Enough chill to notice that the season is changing.

3. Collecting poppy seeds for my mom.

4. Grapes that are almost ripe.

My neighbors and I were pretty sure the old fence wouldn't last another winter so it's been replaced.  One of my brothers, the neighbor and I were outside still hammering and sawing at 9:30 last night by the light of a lamp and with a flashlight.  My neighbor put the last of the fencing in place this afternoon.

I am thinking I need to reread Messervy's book again soon.  It's been a gardening favorite for a long time.  Thinking about how a blanket or a sweater can be an enclosure too.

One of the nice things about clouds is that every once and awhile they create the most interesting beams of sunlight...

The last bit of sunshine tonight. 

apple trees, apple pie and fences

Yesterday I tore down a fence. 

Today I helped put fence posts up and made apple pie to share with those that helped, especially those that dug the fence post holes.

I used the last of the yellow transparent apples from the tree that is now gone and the first of the Gravensteins from the tree planted last year. 

Amazed that a tree could have no center and still stand, still produce apples.
