change in the weather

Feeling joy that the days are becoming just a bit shorter, or rather that the chickens go to bed before 9:00 PM.

And for rain that waters the garden, brings the temperatures down

and a good night's sleep.

I will probably add more rows to this blanket to make it larger.  Lola and I both love it.

light and dark

Last night was the final outdoor concert down by the bay this year.

Salsa music. Lots of dancers.  On the walk back to the car, along the boardwalk there was an almost full moon, a seal popping up and down, a man with his dog in a canoe paddling along and a wedding party taking pictures and setting off lanterns...

 

Today there is gardening, napping and knitting...

local food, local fiber

August harvest from the garden.

zucchini, tomatoes, beans, tomatillos, blackberries, and a lily I saved from the slugs.

Yarn to finish the poncho.  The black is local wool from Schoonover Farm.  Spun on my drop spindle so that I could have it be more thick than thin.  The white with flecks is some more of the yarn I was given by a friend.  I don't have much of it but it will be enough to add a bit of contrast. 

the morning commute

There is a garden I walk past each day as I go to work.  Right now the lilies are blooming, about 20 of them.  Some mornings I can smell them a half-a-block away. 

possibilities

Somewhere between 35 and 40 inches I've run out of this yarn.

  It's supposed to be 60 inches. 

I still think I have more tucked aways somewhere. 

I am contemplating the possibilities. 

Probably stripes.

I like stripes.

I've been slowly making my way through this book, 3 or 4 pages at a time.  Some books are meant to be read very slowly. 

today's harvest: peaches

I picked seven tonight and ate one. 

What delight tastes like. 

 

on the shelf

dye samples (cabbage, indigo, onion) + a peice of lace crocheted by my great grandmother + my baby shoes.

it's a weed but...

They grow in one corner of the garden, himalayan blackberries. 

They cannot be left to grow or there will be no garden.

This year there were a lot of blooms so I've left them for a bit.  When they are done producing fruit I'll start chopping again. 

They will be back again next year I am sure. 

And... just finished reading An Everlasting Meal by Tamar Adler.
