I first found this poem over 35 years ago.

I return to it every year. 

For it's simplicity and sweetness.

Yesterday it was a hummingbird sitting in the top of the neighbor's dogwood tree.

Today a tiny nuthatch fluttered by while I was cleaning out the chicken coop.

I'm spending most of my time at home this week.

Enjoying the quiet and letting the darkness just be what it is. 

settling into winter

This morning I noticed some of the Lunaria has only the edge of the inside layer of the seed pod left.

The wind can pass through now...

For the next couple weeks I may be publishing via email.  I'm having a few issues with the technology.

Using up some yarn in the stash.

Pattern is here (tiny owl knits...and I'm ready to try the beekeepers quilt, aiming for January I think):

The mitts are rated for beginners but I'd say within some parameters.

It's a great first project for someone ready to try mohair, making increases or using small needles. 

It's also a great project for experienced knitters needing a quick gift...

Oh yes I'm making this hat again.  And again and again.

Pattern here.

Size medium on my larger than average head.

Windy, rainy...

Soup weather.

Carrot soup over rice, with a dab of strained yogurt, a sprinkle of cinnamon, a small handful of toasted walnuts.

Perfection never works for me...

Sometimes I go back and fix things, other times I don't.

In addition to a bump (maybe I was considering a cable?) there are a couple spots where I added a hole or two (lace maybe?).   These socks are for me.  They will get the job done. 

Stripes, because they make me happy.  

Knitting tip #1:  Wooden needles, especially on cables, are the easiest needles to start with.  Your stitches won't slide off as easily as they will on metal needles.

But thinking of adding a white stripe or two...

in season salad (kale + apple)

Slightly steamed kale made into a pesto with olive oil + diced apple + a sprinkle of salt + toasted walnuts = a lunch worth repeating.

Perfect day for spinning and knitting.

Made loosely following guidelines in Circular Knitting Workshop by Margaret Radcliffe.  I cast on 27 stitches and made the whole mitt in Knit 1, Purl 1 using size 11 needles.  So cozy I'll be making more...
