Thinking about what is necessary...

This is beautiful to me, just as it is.

And this is interesting to me, I like the simplicity. 

(Silk dyed with carrot tops and hazelnuts, with a round resist; a moon perhaps. There is a book page underneath the fabric.)

But with a filter added, the photo is more interesting to me.  The wrinkles more visible, the light is more dramatic, there is a story building.

And this, the two photos layered + filters, is even more interesting to me. 

There is a story now...It's about cycles and resiliency and being open to dreams. And about the ability to play.

wool gathering... to gather bits of wool from bushes and hedges (one of my grandmothers has done this for me) or to day dream...

 

I am cutting apart an old wool comforter and reclaiming little squares of felted wool,

 

little bits of wool that I will use to stuff puffs for my bee keeper's quilt,

and squares of cotton to be dyed and/or stitched. 

Today I listened to an interview with Rebecca Solnit.  One of my favorite parts...

"And that start with rejecting the narratives we’re told, and telling our own stories, becoming the storyteller rather than the person who’s told what to do."

Layering images might be a way of stitching.

hole mending with love

My blankets have holes to mend. 

Revisiting something I've done in the past and being inspired by something ( Jude/Spirit Cloth) I love, I found myself layering fabric inside of holes and stitching away...

This could take me awhile.

Sometimes I think, more than anything, I just want to chase the light. 

To find beautiful things. 

To share beautiful things.

It's a form of play really. 

One of my favorite early childhood blogs (let the children play) has a "play flag" posted.

I've been meaning to share this link for awhile.  We all need to play, at all ages.

I really like to play.

Too restless to read, too hot to be working in the garden (for me anyway!) so I played with fabric until a bird appeared. 

Not perfect but it is something that "reads" as "bird." 

I also see fish.

A high of 86 degrees F today.

The cottonwood puffs were blowing across the sky so thickly at work this morning that it looked like snow.  The children love it when this happens. 

I didn't think the puffs would show up in a picture but I thought just try. 

I'm drinking water flavored with frozen blackberries and mint.
