When the first asparagus came up in the garden I said, "Oh good, if that's the only one that made it, I'll have a bit for stir fry."
When the second one came up I said, "Even better, enough asparagus to be have more than a bite."
And then came the third and fourth!
Still not a lot, but just the right amount for me. This is year number two and while I could have harvested at least one stalk, it grew to about 18 inches when I looked away for just a moment too long. It won't hurt to wait another year to start harvesting.
Asparagus from the farmer's market. Today I also purchased radishes and spinach. There is enough lettuce in the garden now for a salad.
Everything is growing fast and furious at the moment. The lilacs and the lady banks rose are both blooming.
There are a few stray tulips here and there...
I can't put off cutting the grass any longer.
Experimenting with some local color.
The t-shirt is one I made several years ago planning to dye it. Found in one of my project piles.
First soaking was in whey left over from making ricotta.
Second Soaking was with onion skins
Third soak red cabbage.
This is the color dry.
Red cabbage isn't the most reliable for sticking around but that's okay. I can keep layering colors on as needed. It might also turn purple when washed. That's really not a problem.

Wildlife note for the week:
First rabbit sighting in my neighborhood. While there are plenty in other local areas, including around the children's gardens at work, for some reason they never have seemed to be here. One morning this week, on the way to the bus stop, there it was...sitting along a neighbor's fence. It was most likely an Eastern Cottontail, a species introduced to this area. Time to do a check on my fences...
