Today's lunch. Emergency crackers made from egg roll wrappers, hummus from the deli near where I work, paneer and a salad made up of radishes and lettuce. Paneer is very easy to make at home but I admit I bought some at the store. It's the same as ricotta, just a different shape.
Eating out. Last night I had a discussion with my parents about the benefits of eating out. It is, of course, a break for the person who usually cooks. It's also a chance to try foods that are new, or a new way of preparing something or a way of cooking. Last night I tried vegan chickpea meatloaf. The tomato sauce/gravy on top was excellent and reminded me that homemade ketchup is a wonderful thing. That may be what I do with the last of the tomatoes in the freezer.
This week's menu is about cleaning up the pantry:
- Apple/tuna salad
- Ravioli's from the freezer
- Sweet potatoes
- Potato soup (end of the week when it's raining again)
- The last of the onion jam
- Orange/olive/feta salad
Garden news: I planted sugar snap peas and Swiss chard today. Rescued a bee from the house for the 4th or 5th time this week. I'm slightly worried about this pattern but since it's never been more than one a day I'm hoping that it's not a sticky problem about to unfold.
