I found a goose egg at the farmer's market and took it to work to share with the preschoolers.
It's hard to capture how big a goose egg is.
Maybe equal to 3 or 4 eggs?
The chicken egg here is large.
At work, I took the egg out on the playground with a sewing needle, a straw and a bowl. An audience of about 15 children and 3 teachers quickly assembled. They had a lot of fun guessing what kind of egg it was (a sea gull was my favorite).
The sewing needle was no where close to sharp enough to break the ends of the egg. After brainstorming what might work we decided to try a push pin. Success! I poked a whole in both ends, inserted a straw and blew out the egg yolk and white. "Eww..."
One of the teachers said the children had all kinds of follow up questions. The egg was not edible (by human's anyway) after the experimenting. The egg shell is being saved. I have this urge to paint it gold...
This was so edible that I bought enough carrots and dill to make more.
About 2 cups of chopped carrots + 1 small spring onion cooked in olive oil until soft. And then 3 cups of water. Cooked until carrots were soft. And then one bunch of dill (about 1/2 cup chopped) and 1/4-1/2 cup buttermilk (yogurt would be just fine or no dairy too).
Perfect for a rainy spring day!
