#110 unfinished thoughts

Another scrappy tank. 

Bottom made from a table cloth with stain. 

Heading for an onion skin dye bath.

I wasn't paying attention.

I felt bad.

Consistently getting good results with the sourdough.

It's been on the to do list forever, fixing the gate. 

I think I am going to weave twine through the slates to hold it together better. 

Pasta + garbanzo beans + veggies from Mom and Dad + veggies from my garden + veggies from a CSA.

None of these are from today...today was not quite as planned.

Yesterday someone told me on the way home that my break lights were out, so that had to be taken care of.

I started reading Cat's Eye by Margaret Atwood and spent over two hours pondering the beauty of well crafted sentences. 

 

#109 a few tries

It took a few tries to get an image of this lily just the way I wanted.

The only lily I currently am growing in the garden.

It's taken a few tries to learn how I best like radicchio. 

Now I love it, grilled with blue cheese,walnuts and balsamic vinegar.

 

#108 past, present, future

This morning one of my coworkers asked how I got such an awful bruise on my wrist. 

I looked at it, smiled and said it's not a bruise, it's indigo...

I started another batch of alpaca this morning. 

My mother gave me a stainless steel basket that was an insert for a pot. 

It works beautifully for fiber. 

Once upon a time it was great for cooking shrimp too. Well, maybe it was just the shrimp that were great.... 

 

#107 not a weed, not native but rather naturalized

Epipactis helleborine, a type of orchid that grows in my garden.

I look forward to it blooming each year. 

It reminds me that things aren't always what they seem.

 

Something that we consider fussy might not be. 

Identify before weeding.

Take some time.

#106 spinning the blues

I can't wait to spin this into yarn, but not tonight.

Too hot (high of 85 F today/81 currently)...

Alpaca dyed in indigo.

 

#105 perfectly ripe

I've been sitting on the front porch most of the afternoon.

High of 81 F which is hot for around here.

Watching the squirrels eat the green hazelnuts that I didn't pick.

(I really haven't found anything that I like to do with green hazelnuts.)

The stellar jays wanted in on the action but were too late.

Luckily peaches can be picked green and will continue to ripen.  I picked about 40, found a few that had been sampled.

Also picked the first tomato of the year.

It was perfectly ripe.

#104 one day at a time

It has always been true for me.

Past, present, future. 

We live with them all, but one day at a time, the moment is what we live.

She's fine now, but yesterday Lola's heart stopped.

She was at the vet to get her teeth cleaned.  Instead of getting her teeth cleaned, she got her heart checked out.  Everything seems fine, best guess is she had a reaction to the medicines she was given to prep for the surgery. 

Here's the thing I really wanted to share...because it's so strange.  A dog's heart can stop, she can have the dog version of CPR and medications...and can come home the same day. 

Her vet and I are in agreement, she doesn't need her teeth cleaned anymore.

Given all that...today's "get it out of the project pile" project was to to make this pillow:

Walnut and sumac dyed silk for the front, redwood cone dyed silk for the back.

The pillow form was made with thread and fabric trimmings for zero waste.

One day at a time...

so glad this is the post I am writing today.

#103 something to hold

I wove this during one of Jude's classes I think.

The yellow fabric in onion skin dyed cotton.

Yesterday I made it into a pillow.  The strips still need to be stitched down a bit more, but it will hold for now.

 And it is lovely to hold.

#102 make it useful

Once upon a time it was a skirt that wasn't worn much.

And now it's not.

#101 mood changer

It was a struggle tonight. 

Tired following a hard day.

I thought spin a little yarn.

Think about tomorrow's to-do list (I have the day off work).

I went out on the back porch to take a picture.

And then there was so much more.
