The preschoolers named it "Chester." I am not quite sure how that came about but I love that they noticed the spider working away at the entry. They will check on it daily for the next few weeks as they can. That's how they are.
Sometimes when we talk about activities for children at the childcare center where I work, we talk about meaningful work. How important it is that children know they are expected to and can contribute, in an age appropriate way. This is often something that younger children love. Their play often copies what they see adults doing...cooking, taking care of babies, sweeping.
I think about this a lot, for all of us...meaningful work. Especially in this time of pandemic.
This is turmeric.
I planted the rhizome last year and while it didn't die, it didn't grow either. This year, two beautiful shoots.
It's the same with the ginger I planted.
Some things take time and patience.
Soon they will come inside, along with some of the fresh indigo. Will they live as house plants? I know ginger will as Mom grows it in her sun room.
