Back to my favorite park.

Today, on the end of the boardwalk I could hear a saxophone being played.  When I got to the gazebo a band was packing up, except a guitar player who started back down the boardwalk playing a bit.  The rest of the band caught up with him and they started singing as they went along.

Everyone walking by was smiling...

I've been learning about the health benefits, both emotional and physical, of short moments of connection;

even smiling at a person walking by. 

This afternoon just seemed to let a little more light in...

 

 

soup and not soup

Working on cleaning up the pantry again. 

This weekend I used up most of my winter squash.

I baked the squash whole (minus the stem) and then scooped out the meat. So much easier than cutting first.

The first meal was a mash of winter squash topped with homemade ricotta, onions and Swiss chard and hazelnuts.

The second meal was soup topped with Swiss chard, paneer, pumpkin seeds, and a spicy hazelnut sauce made locally.

Perfect for a wet cold only just spring day.

Random fact, or maybe not so random... when there is light chickens lay eggs.  For chickens to lay eggs in the middle of winter they need artificial light if they live where the day is short.

The local chickens are laying without additional light now. 

I got these at the farmer's market yesterday.

They reminded me of something I had in my stash...

She has a name and the beginnings of a hair-do.

A new hair-do can do a lot for a person.

Her name is Primrose.

They are hardy and cheerful.

There is of course the primrose path...

but that's another story.

So of course I go back and read again.

 

 

heading towards spring

A pot of pansies.

Not much making got done this weekend.

A project from long ago that still needs a back.

Timber thinks it's perfect as is.

The fit is a little snug when Gibson shows up.

But not as snug as the box that Widget favors which is under the bed.

I've had to round up every ball of yarn that I can find and put them in a bin.

Widget loves to pack them around.

Which is fine as long as no one eats the yarn...

15th year

It's my blog's birthday...

The first two posts. 

I've made a lot of things, learned a lot and am still trying to do the same thing...use up that stash.

Now I know it's not possible but it sure is fun trying.

 

 

I stitched a face (not quite done) on a doll head made many many years ago.  It was found during some of my recent cleaning and organizing.

On Saturday our mask mandate is over. 

One of the big surprises is that it included indoors for childcare centers.

An even bigger surprise is that pretty much all of our requirements are being dropped.

It's disorienting...

And... the guppies at work had babies.  They are doing well at the moment.
