reflection

This month I have been participating in a challenge created by Susannah Conway, April Love.

A prompt is given each day that can be responded to. She does these about 3 times a year and there is very active participation on Instagram.  Instagram is not my favorite format but I understand why people choose it and so I post there occasionally for those who find it easier and that I suspect don't come here.

Today's prompt is "reflection" and mine is that being given a prompt can help keep momentum going when the brain is full and overwhelmed...which is true for me at the moment.

Not much making happening right now.

(This is from last week when it was cold and sunny.  Now it is cold and wet.)  

Also, a snuggle helps.

unexpected

The weather turned out to be a better than anticipated this weekend.

So more time in the garden than making.

And house cleaning...including sorting out pantry goods.

A jar of apricot jam became a layer in a batch of scones.

An assortment of things ended up in the soup.

The last bit of some spaghetti, dried peppers and tomatoes. 

Last week's celery bought at the farmer's market.

As an experiment I sauteed a bit of onion, carrot and the celery (stems and leaves) and then blended it in water.

It made a very green broth.

The soup also has potato and Italian seasonings.

And paneer for a topping.

I will probably play with this more.

measurements, crooked and corrected

Nine joyful crooked blocks.

Pretty sure the quilt will need to be 7 block by 7 blocks to be six feet by six feet.

Other measurements...

A little more research on the length of cats:  the average length for the body of a cat is 15-20 inches and the length of the tail 9 inches for females and 11-12 for males.

Tried to measure Gibson again.  He is a wiggly 23 for the body and 14 for the tail this time.

Timber has a 22 inch body and I didn't even try to get his tail.

Widget is a "get that gosh darn tape measure away from me" long.

The longest cat recorded was over over 4 feet!

I sure hope that included his 16 inch tail...

 

 

still good enough

This weekend really didn't happen the way I thought it might.

Yes, time in the garden, the farmer's market, a Zoom class (work related), but not much making.

Not the making I'd hoped to do.

One block attached to another block.

Good enough Covid-19.

It seems like forever ago that I started this.

Good enough, meaning let things be good enough as we figure things out, as we move forward.

Good enough, as in, when will it be enough?

What gets done has still got to be good enough.

Yesterday's doodle layered with an image of Gibson.

The doodle layer hides the litter box.

Random fact(from I don't remember where), the average domestic cat is 15-20 inches long from the tip of their nose to the end of the tail.

Gibson is already 32 inches.

I haven't gotten around to measuring Widget (who is probably average) or Timber (who probably isn't).

Not even sure how to measure Timber's twice kinked tail.

Maybe nose to base of tail will be good enough?

 

a fool in the garden

Yesterday I bought a gardenia plant.

Hardy to Zone 7, which is true of here, 0 degrees F.

This winter would have killed it off.

A fool and his/her money are soon parted?

And yet, I try again. 

Maybe in the same area as the bay tree, which did survive the winter?

Yesterday I looked out the window to see a squirrel eating the flowers on my Fritillaria.

I opened the window and yelled "bad squirrel, go away."  He went up to the top of the fence and finished his snack.

This, of course, attracted some assistance.

The squirrel gave us all the stink eye.

Foolish to think anything else would have happened.

Today I spent several hours in the garden.

No squirrels in sight (but notice the leaves on the tulips); just an annoyed Stellar Jay, the hummingbird, and an assortment of small birds.

And there was rhubarb to pick.

So I made a rhubarb fool (stewed rhubarb and sweetened whip cream).
