time spent

Yesterday I went to the beach for a couple hours, early while it was quiet.

Mostly people launching kayaks and paddle boards.  One very beautiful rowboat went by...

  The water was incredibly still and the sky immense.

One of the experiments...butterfly bush/buddleia. 

It was interesting how much warmer the water was in the black pot compared to clear glass.

In another container I am soaking cotton in diluted soy milk.  Not something I have tried before.  One piece of fabric will go in another batch of buddleia, the other I am still thinking about...

Another container has fresh indigo leaves steeping.

There were more experiments I wanted to try this weekend but mostly I want to nap...trying to set smaller goals.

It's been a long time since I've bought a skirt pattern but this one really appealed.

I do have one small problem; when my computer crashed last week I lost the directions.

Pretty sure I can figure it out...

Home for the day and planning on some experiments.  Here is the first one...coffee and pollen.

I want to use some of the pollen as a watercolor, see how long it will last for.

I was originally going to say unbundled but undone came to me.  Unbound might be more accurate, but undone...considering this word.

A break from the heat today, a high of 72.  We are supposed to be hot again next week.  I'll be doing some more bundles to take advantage of the heat.

field notes

The chicory is blooming in the alley. The flowers open in the sunlight and close when it becomes dark.

A couple days ago I saw an usual butterfly, too fast to identify it as anything other than "not a swallowtail." I saw it again...Mourning Cloak.  I hope I see it again.

My two figs are still looking good.  I also discovered a few more prunes on the other tree (I have 3 total), way up high above the blackberries...

silver linings (or looking for the positive)

I didn't expect to have black hollyhock flowers to dye with this year but it happened!

First experiment, bundled on silk fabric with marigolds and sumac.

Solar dyed because we hit 90 degrees again yesterday.
