#85 capacity

Tonight's dinner: broth (store), potstickers (store), spinach, dehydrated carrots/celery/tomatoes, a splash of tamari sauce, a few pieces of dehydrated tomato sauce.

Perfect for a chilly day.  There is a chance of snow in the forecast!

A perfect project for this afternoon...a few rows on the wool blanket.

A little help from Gibson.

I listened to Rumble Strip while I knitted.

The question discussed was "What class are you?" What a complicated question...what an important question. 

For me it's not just about income or education but also...how vulnerable are you? 

Today's mark making:  A layered image that I did several years ago printed out.  And then I dropped rose hip ink over the top.

Thinking about the capacity to imagine, the capacity to absorb;

 first we have to imagine that it is possible.

The dots on the top were made last night, dry now.  The other five dots were made this morning. 

I made the top row of dots by putting five dots of oak gall/iron ink down and then adding indigo, turmeric, rose hip, and coffee ink from right to left.  The last dot on the left is oak gall/iron.

The bottom row was done in reverse, first the other inks and then the oak gall/iron on top.  The middle dot is just oat gall/iron with a little more water than last night.

The indigo and turmeric inks are alcohol based inks (one straight alcohol and the other wine) while the rose hip and coffee inks are not.  I am wondering if the alcohol slows down the mixing of the two inks and creates more distinct patterns?  The turmeric ink dries very fast compared to the other inks.  

The oak gall/iron on top of the coffee (bottom right) is interesting.

And all this means more experimentation...

#80 stretch

I made six or seven figures today...this was my favorite.

It's layered with another day's mark making. 

Thinking about the need to stretch.

Stretch as in grow.

Stretch as in stay flexible.

This one started as random marks but I saw the flower pretty quickly and went with that. 

I tried making a second one so that I would remember how I made it but it didn't turn out as well. 

Number 2 still taught me something about the making...about timing of layering the ink and how the ink reacts to different papers. 

I will try again tomorrow.

#78 it rained all day and I probably spent too much time thinking

Thinking about "why's" today. 

Because it's fun is a good answer...sometimes.

Because we need multiple ways to communicate.  That always works for me.

Because it can heal.  That's good too.

There are more reasons, but what is really important here is...

the why is important to me.

I did some knitting and sewing while I watched the rain.

The fabric to the left are remnants from a past project. I am stitching them together to make a poncho sort of thing. The original project, a coat, didn't turn out well and is stashed away somewhere waiting for a re-do.  I kind of suspect that the remnant project is going to turn out better than the original.

Thinking about...what if we stop using the word waste?  What if everything is just material for another project, another something?  How does it change our perspective on making, on the things we bring into our homes and lives? 

#77 it was the garden after all

It rained, but not all day.

I think I have a deer visiting the garden.  My tulips were nibbled on pretty badly, also my pink primrose, the perennial bachelor buttons, and the bluebells. 

And one strawberry plant.

A lot of my gardening time today was spent trying to salvage what was left of the tulips.

And then the thundershowers started so I came inside to do this.

Inks: coffee and indigo.

#76 beautiful day

Sunrise was clear with just a dash of pink.  A day spent in the garden; moving plants around, watching geese fly over (some swans too I think), and planting seeds.

And at the end of the day, dinner with a friend.

Time to get serious about cleaning house.
