the dahlia experiment
A quick ten minute project...
The "backside."

Farther away.
Dahlia petals that had dropped to the ground, gathered and then pounded onto the paper. Also some marks made by gathering up the smashed flowers and rubbing them on the paper.
I will be trying some bundle dyeing with these soon, probably some ink.

today, a list of things I am grateful for
#1 Goldenrod thread on the edge. The last thing that I used the dye bath for before making a lake pigment with the rest.
As I was stitching, I thought (probably because I could see how crooked I was getting), we don't need to be perfect. It's fine.
I am thinking about how the thicker thread lines are more childlike, at least for the way I stitch.
#2 Goldenrod paint sample. The color of sunshine... There is supposed to be rain tomorrow.
#3 Today's garden harvest. Just enough.
#4 A very lovely visit with Hazel this morning. Still thinking about our conversation...in many ways I am refining what I want to make and why.

color transformations
A picture of the lily with the pollen removed, the ink made with the pollen layered underneath digitally.
Goldenrod dye samples.
Silk, without a mordant, and two pieces of cotton, one soaked in aluminum triformate.
Using a mordant definitely makes a difference.
The rest of the goldenrod dye bath will be made into a lake pigment.
And then comparing the marigold and the goldenrod. I used the same mordant for the marigold fabric.
I was gathering up a few things and had the jar of rose petal ink in my hand, looked over at the paper and thought why not...pouring color over the paper is definitely the way to go.
This makes me think of stormy skies.
