Making myself a new hat, mostly working on it during lunch breaks and when I can't sleep.
Revisiting the On Being conversation with Ann Hamilton, I wrote down this:
"All the materials that exist in the world that you can transform in some way..."
I am not sure that there is one way of making that I like better than another, it's the act of transforming that fascinates me.
That and color...
(Thinking about why I like to make things.)
After listening to the podcast again last week, I went exploring and found this conversation which is in three parts. The first two parts are individual presentations by Ann Hamilton and Emily Pilloton, and then a moderated conversation between the two.
Emily Pilloton's web site is here. She is teaching people, mostly girls, how to build with tools. I love this.
(New Year's present to self.)
One of the things that has stuck with me from this presentation is the conversation happening between making as something that meets very real physical and practical needs and making as something that feeds our spirit and imaginations.
I might not quite have said this the way I want to yet and want to spend more time thinking about this. One thing I am considering is where and how these two ideas might meet.
A blanket can be so many things....and while it may not be obvious so can my hat.
(Thinking about why I need to make.)
